Spring 2024 Network Equity and Racial Justice Trainings
STARTING WITH THE SELF | April 11, 2024 | 1:30-3:00 p.m.
Often equity work is seen as something we do “out there” or “with community.” In this session, we will create shared meanings for common words in equity work. We will understand our identities and how we’ve been socialized. We will reflect on the importance of self-accountability as a way to continuously grow in our understanding of ourselves.
FROM SELF TO STRUCTURE | May 7, 2024 | 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Building on learning from Starting with the Self, this workshop will focus on connecting our personal narrative to the larger social structures that shape our experiences. In moving from self to structure, we will focus on understanding the ways that social and economic structures lead to hunger. We will also review key terms and their definitions related to social inequities and oppression.
DATA AS STORYTELLING | June 11, 2023 | 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Data has the potential to tell many different stories about our communities. Rooting in an Indigenous framework of research as storytelling, we consider how to use data to tell a more true story of hunger. In this session, we will review theories of change as ways to tell stories about our communities. We will practice identifying data needs based on the story we wish to tell.
