Service Insights
Welcome
Welcome to the Oregon Food Bank Network's Service Insights Resource Center. Here you will find the custom resources we have created to help our partners learn about Service Insights on MealConnect (SIMC), and access the training and support needed to successfully use the SIMC software.
See below for general information on Service Insights and SIMC, and use the navigation bar on the top or side to view Resource Center content.
What is Service Insights?
Service Insights is our food bank-wide initiative to collect basic demographic information about our community members accessing food services across our distribution network. Our goal is to learn more about the community members we serve so that we can work to better meet their needs. We collect this information by equipping our partner agencies with a neighbor intake system to use at food distributions.
In 2025, we are beginning the process of onboarding our partners to an intake system that is supported by Feeding America, called Service Insights on MealConnect, or SIMC. The system is a website built to perform neighbor intake, record each service provided to neighbors, and display data through interactive reports. Our database is secure, and the data collected is only used to help us understand how well we are working with our communities.
Over time, this information will inform Oregon Food Bank’s strategies to eliminate hunger across our region – and we can’t do it without our partners!
What are the benefits of participating?
- Reduce or eliminate paper intake forms.
- TEFAP compliance is built into the system.
- Clients sign up once, rather than at every visit or every Partner site they visit.
- Option to use QR code cards to quickly locate neighbors in SIMC.
- Neighbors who wish to remain anonymous in SIMC can be part of “unduplicated” counts through use of QR codes/i.d. numbers, and have the opportunity to give demographic information if they’re comfortable with that.
- Language translations available for paper forms.
- “Offline mode” enables intake even if internet access is limited.
- Flexibility to enter service information at a later date.
- Track additional programs available to neighbors like SNAP Assistance, meal programs, and clothing closets.
- Simple reports and built-in data dashboard with visualizations.
- See trends in attendance.
- See maps of the zip codes you are serving and how many neighbors you are serving from each area.
- See demographic information of neighbors you are serving and what gaps in service may need to be addressed.
- Export dashboards, graphs, and maps easily to share internally and with community members, policy makers, and funders.
- No cost to use the software.
- Intake materials and some tech equipment provided by OFB at no cost.
- Training and other resources available on this site.
