This 2-hour session is an introduction to understanding how culture affects the way people communicate. We will learn how culture shapes both what we say and how we say it, while also understanding and respecting cultural differences. We’ll focus on two types of communication: direct and indirect. Participants will learn how people from high-context cultures (who rely on non-verbal cues and the situation) communicate, compared to people from low-context cultures (who prefer clear and direct language). The session will end with a look at our own communication styles and practical ideas on how to navigate different ways of communicating, both at work and in everyday life.
Please Note: This training will be offered in a hybrid format to accommodate different needs. You are welcome to join us either in person or via Zoom.
- In-Person Location: Oregon Food Bank, 7900 NE 33rd Drive, Portland, OR 97211
