Community Food Coordinator- Full-time
NAYA Family Center seeks a talented and dedicated person to serve as our Community Food Coordinator. The Community Food Coordinator will manage NAYA’s Food Pantry and prepare and deliver food boxes. They will also contribute to NAYA’s First Foods and Food Sovereignty initiatives.

This is a full-time role with work hours of 9 am to 6 pm with a one hour unpaid lunch. This role reports to the Community Reception Manager. Starting pay is $25 - $27/hour, which is equivalent to $52,000 to $56,000/year.
Who You Are
- You have are a food service professional with experience working in a kitchen, food bank, grocery or farm. You are passionate about food and community.
- You have an Oregon Food Handler’s Card, or the ability to obtain one. You already understand the basics of food safety.
- Ideally, you have work or lived experience in the Native community.
- Ideally, you experience working in social services and you understand the basics of serving clients and recording data each day.
- Ideally, you have experience with First Foods or Food Sovereignty.
- Ideally, you have experience asking for and coordinating food donations.
- You have superb follow up. You have good personal systems to make sure you don’t forget to follow up with clients or with your teammates.
- It’s easy and enjoyable to attend community events and celebrations. You know that showing up and authentically connecting with others is essential to your work.
- You are self-aware. You listen well and center others. You are generally OK making mistakes and taking responsibility for them.
- You prefer a team environment at work, rather than working alone. You don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pitch in, even when it’s not your job.
- You have your own car and a valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license with no more than one major violation in the last three years, so that you can be covered under NAYA’s liability insurance. You don’t mind using your personal vehicle for work purposes (mileage reimbursed).
What You'll Do
- Increase access to healthy and culturally relevant foods in NAYA’s Food Pantry and Kitchen. Provide emergency food services.
- Spend approximately 50% of your time managing NAYA’s Food Pantry, 25% of your time conducting deliveries and 25 % of your time coordinating with NAYA’s First Foods and Food Sovereignty teams.
- Pick up weekly orders from the Oregon Food Bank and coordinate their distribution to community members, including walk ins and curbside pickups.
- Partner with the NAYA Community Garden.
- Seek food and other in kind donations across the Portland/Vancouver area.
- Conduct outreach to food providers and others so they understand NAYA’s role in First Foods and Food Sovereignty.
- Update the NAYA Food Panty webpage. Use social media, tabling at community events and direct contact to develop partnerships with chefs and other food providers and to recruit clients.
- Refer Food Panty clients to other wraparound services with NAYA.
- Ensure safe food handling and inventory practices within the Food Pantry.
