July Operations Updates
Onions- We have reached the very end of the 2023 NW storage crop season. We may not see onions for another 4-6 weeks. Our primary onion donor does have some summer onions available but they have notoriously thin skins and short shelf life. Our produce expert, Kim, will assess the possibilities with the donor in a few weeks and see if we want to bring any in. If not, we won't see onions till early to mid-August at the earliest. If the summer varieties fail the shelf life test expect onions again in September when the crop is cured and stable.
State Funding Purchasing - You have likely noticed a decrease in purchased staples (items that OFB purchases and offers to PAs free of charge) and will continue to see a decrease in product variety and amount. We are nearing the end of this most recent round of Central Food Purchasing from state funding. We expect a few loads to land each month in July and August. We do not yet have concrete information about future allotments of state funding.
Cooler Expansion Update – As you can see from the expected produce loads for this coming week, we are now near the end of the cooler expansion project. Our frozen inventory has stabilized, and you will see the return of Food to Buy frozen meat next week. We are now operating in the newly installed racking in the expanded cooler so flow of refrigerated items (dairy, produce, etc.) will stabilize over the next two weeks.
Adding Perishables to your Order - Reminder that all cooler items, produce, and other perishable items (like bread) may not be added to your cart until two business days before your pickup/delivery. Product codes that start with 1,61,81 will be perishable and cooler, and bread is 00070.
