NERJ Workshop: From “What’s Wrong” to “What Happened”: Trauma-Informed Pantry Participant Engagement
Standalone workshop or part of the trauma-informed engagement series.
Session Description
Over 60% of adults have experienced at least one traumatic experience in their life. Layering on traumas like systemic oppression, coloniality, and natural disasters, trauma is widespread. Despite being widespread, most systems–including the food banking system–do not consistently use a trauma-informed approach. During this session, we will learn the basics of trauma, unique traumas associated with food, and ways to move from asking what’s wrong with this person to what happened to this person.
