Wowie kazowie! We have a lot of produce this week. Melons and stone fruit once again dominate the lineup. I love this time of year. There are so many fun varieties of fruit and early summer veggie crops to enjoy. It’s the perfect combination for making raw and cooked dishes. When it’s hot outside, hand held fruit is an excellent way to cool down and get some energy. Always remember, if you have unripe stone fruit that you want to flash ripen you can leave it in a warm car, a warm spot on your counter or camp and it will start to ripen faster. But do keep an eye on it. If the fruit gets hot enough and you aren’t paying attention it could go from hard to overripe in the blink of an eye.
As excited as I am about all the produce pouring in, my mind is mostly preoccupied with following the many wildfires consuming our communities. I’ve been checking with our farmer donor friends around the state and currently everyone is doing mostly okay and their farms are safe. I hope the same for the folks in your communities. In these smoky fiery times the best I can do is keep the produce flowing in hopes that it reaches as many people in need as possible.

Please remember these are expected truckloads coming to the OFB warehouse this week. Reminder: It will take a few days for items to appear in inventory depending on when the loads are received into the warehouse. Food is first received into the Statewide warehouse and then must be transformed/moved to the Metro and West warehouses, including a delivery to West. These are estimates on what you can likely expect to see in the coming days/weeks, not when you will see them.
