As of 12:01 a.m. ET this morning (10/1), funding for the federal government lapsed. Many departments and agencies—including USDA—have now shut down. The severity and timing of disruptions to federal operations will vary from agency to agency. We do not know how long the shutdown will last.

Changes to SNAP are beginning this fall under the Republican Budget Bill (H.R.1), and 313,000 Oregonians will be affected.

• October 1: New SNAP rules begin for adults ages 18 to 64 without children under 14 in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Yamhill, Benton and Hood River counties. People in this group may only receive benefits for three months unless they meet certain additional requirements.
