Transformational Campaigns Lunch and Learn
featuring Cori Stell, Development Director at ACLU of Northern California'

To help inform our thinking about an OFB Network campaign, OFB Community Philanthropy Director C. Nathan Harris will interview and facilitate Q&A with his former supervisor (and current friend), Cori Stell. Cori will share her experience with collaborative, network-wide campaigns at ACLU from an affiliate perspective working at ACLU of Northern California.

Cori led the ACLU of Northern California's participation in Leading Freedom Forward (LFF) – a nationwide ACLU campaign circa 2005-2010. LFF transformed how state-based ACLU affiliates nationwide partnered with ACLU National in collaborative, coordinated resource and relationship development. In doing so, the campaign transformed the ACLU network's programmatic coordination and impact.

Oregon Governor’s State Employees Food (and Fund) Drive
External campaign with Network-wide impact
February 1 - 28, 2021

• In 2021 GSEFD pivoted to a funds-only drive.
• Another major change in 2021 was that payroll deductions were submitted through an online portal managed by Oregon state, rather than paper forms (as in the past).
• In the new online system, employees could check a box if they wanted to receive an acknowledgement letter. The GSEFD committee sent a list of these donors to OFB; we will email you the information for donors in your RFB area soon! In future years we are also hoping to work with the GSEFD Committee to transition this process (in which donor info is shared with the OFB Network) to an “opt-out” instead of an “opt-in” choice for state employees.
• OFB and MPFS have been exploring ways to cultivate/steward GSEFD donors throughout the year; join us for the May 26 Donor Stewardship Sharing Session to discuss further!

Ford Motor Company Peanut Butter Drive
OFB managed campaign with Network-wide impact
June 2021

Child hunger has been a major philanthropic priority of the Ford Motor Company Fund. Starting in 2014, the Northwest Region of Ford Motor Company has encouraged Ford dealerships throughout the OFB Network to organize peanut butter drives for their local food assistance organizations. Some dealerships have participated and others have not had the interest and/or capacity. 

After having to cancel the Peanut Butter Drive in 2020 due to COVID-19, the drive is returning this year and is scheduled for June. The Ford Motor Company Fund plans to support this effort with a public relations and digital media campaign.

Ford Motor Company Fund shared this list of suggested “food bank partners” with local dealerships. Note that dealerships are recommended, but not required, to partner with the listed OFB Network organizations.

Suggested RFB actions

• Contact the dealership(s) in your area to thank them for Ford’s support and see if there is anything you can do to support this year’s drive. OFB and Ford corporate both realize that we as food banks can only do so much and that some dealerships will not have the interest or bandwidth to participate.
• Report pounds received to Sasia at OFB via email (sreyes@oregonfoodbank.org) after the drive.

Subaru Love Promise Campaign

Feeding America-managed campaign with Regional Impact

Jan 17- Mar 31, 2021

• 90% of funds from this campaign are being distributed by Feeding America to member food banks (e.g. Oregon Food Bank Network) based on retailer locations and sales volume. Feeding America provided OFB with a list of Subaru dealers in our service area and an amount for each dealer. Funds are unrestricted and can be used for general operating expenses.
• Impacted RFBs: ACCESS, CAPECO, Clark County Food Bank, Columbia Gorge Food Bank, FOOD for Lane County, Klamath Lake Counties Food Bank, Linn-Benton Food Share, Marion Polk Food Share, NeighborImpact, Oregon Food Bank, and YCAP.
• Per Feeding America, recipient food banks are strongly encouraged to engage with our local Subaru retailers and offer volunteer opportunities as well as recognize Subaru of America, Inc. for this grant award using social media and online platforms to help promote the partnership. (i.e. Twitter & Facebook posts, website promotion, electronic communication with donors, volunteers, other constituents). All PR/communications that mention Subaru of America, Inc. or include the logo must comply with guidelines outlined in the Subaru Communications Toolkit. This includes inclusion in annual reports, press releases, social media, newsletter, website, etc.
• Feeding America requires OFB to submit a report on these funds by July 13, 2021. It would be helpful to include examples of promotion/local engagement from RFBs - please share them with Darcie via email!
• OFB received payment from Feeding America in March 2021, we will pass through these funds to RFBs as part of the regular Pass Through process.
